and Capacity Building Department
Enhanced technical capabilities to develop environmentally sound policies and management systems are imperative for sustainable economic development. The environmental management and capacity building department is concerned with developing human, institutional and legislative capacity to support sustained economic growth.
As such the environmental management and capacity building department will provide assistance to communities and governments to plan, design, and implement institutional strengthening and capacity building activities which complement and support national and regional development programs. By providing technical assistance and training in the following areas, the environmental management and capacity building department will assist in developing a cross-sectoral cadre of trained professional.
Areas of intervention include:
- Harmonization of environmental laws
- Local, national and regional environmental strategies and action plans
- Public participation and environmental assessment
- Environmental management systems (EMS) design, monitoring and evaluation
- Training center for capacity building
- National, regional and Local Agenda 21 program design and implementation
